Omaha Hi - Lo Pokerrules

The object of Omaha Hi/Lo is to create a High hand using any two out of four pocket cards and three out of five community cards, and a Low hand using any two out of four pocket cards and three out of five community cards. 50% of the pot will be awarded to the best High hand and 50% of the pot will be awarded to the best Low hand. If there is no qualifying Low hand, the whole pot will be awarded to the best High hand.

This section includes information on gaming procedures, rules, policies and limits of the Pokergame "Omaha Hi - Lo"

Pottsharing

To qualify as a Low hand, the hand must contain five unpaired cards ranked eight (8) or lower. Straights and Flushes are not considered when evaluating low hands. The winning Low hand is the hand with the lowest high card. In case of a tie with the high card, the winning hand is the one with the next lowest high card, etc.

It is not possible to have a qualifying Low hand unless three of the community cards are ranked eight (8) or lower. Aces can be used as the lowest card. A player can use any two of his pocket cards for the High hand, and any two of his pocket cards for the Low hand.

the Game

Every player receive four 'hole' cards that only they can see, and five 'community' cards are dealt face up for everyone’s use. Each player must use two of their hole cards, as well as three of the community cards, to make up their hand.

The game is split into four rounds of betting, and the game moves clockwise around the table. Betting starts from the player position next to the dealer button, which moves one place to the left after each hand. In online games, the dealer button replaces the 'real' dealer.

Dealer Button

The button is a graphical representation (“D”) of which player is the “dealer.”

the Blinds

Before the game starts, the two players sat to the left of the dealer post 'blind' bets, these are called blinds because they are made before the players have seen any cards. The blinds ensure that there is some money in the pot to play for as the game starts. The player to the left of the dealer posts the 'small blind', and the player positioned to his left then posts the 'big blind'.

Pre-Flop

Four cards are dealt to each player that only they can see. These are called 'hole' cards. Next, the first round of betting is started by the first player to the left of the big blind.

The game will now advance to each player seated asking to fold, call, or raise until we reach the Big Blind for an action decision. If no player has raised by the time the play returns to the Big Blind, the Big Blind has the option to check his own blind wager or raise

The player who sit on the left from the Big Blind is the first player may not push, but only get out, call or raise.

call - match the amount bet in the big blind
raise - increase the amount bet
fold - give up the cards and any stake in the hand

The player in the big blind (the first compulsory full bet), can 'check' and opt to stay in the game without adding anything to the pot. However, if an opponent has raised, then the big blind has three options: fold, call, or re-raise.

the Flop

der Flop wird ausgeteilt

This stage involves dealing three 'community' cards face up on the table. Players can use these to make their five-card hand. A second round of betting follows.

the Turn

the Turn will be open by the fourth card on the table

The fourth community card is dealt face up on the table. The third round of betting follows.

the River

the Rivercard is the fifth and the last opened community card

The fifth and final community card is dealt, followed by the final round of betting.

the Showdown

If there is more than one player left in the game, the next stage is the showdown. At this point, the players turn-up their cards and the player with the highest hand wins half the pot and the lowest low hand wins the other half (look at pottsharing). The same player can have both the best high and low hands. However, if none of the players has a low hand, then the highest hand wins the entire pot.
